| We review the key aspects of the resort on a scale from one to ten -- one being horrendously bad, and ten being perfection.
Rooms: 8.0 The room was nice, always very clean, and in a generally quiet location. However, the age of the resort is somewhat apparent. The A/C would cut out every now and then. We would call and they would have it working again very quickly. The location was convenient and the view was beautiful! The less than perfect score is simply a reflection of the resort age. Reception / Front Desk: 9.0 Our welcome was very nice. Our room wasn't ready yet, but they allowed us to store our bags and we went out for lunch. The front desk was always very responsive to our needs. Water Sports: 9.0 The rating for this category depends a lot upon your expectations -- and our expectations are generally very high in this category. They really don't have much in the way of anything to sail, but we expected as much. The windsurfing equipment existed, but it is all suffering from age and extreme use. The water skiing is okay here, depending upon the conditions. The snorkeling can be very good, again depending upon conditions. There is good snorkeling right off the beach, and that is a bonus. We found the staff to be extremely helpful within the bounds of the equipment available to them. Bonus points for hooking Mike up with a contact to rent a surfboard! Free boat tours up and down the coast were a nice offering. The staff at water sports is fantastic (like the staff all over the resort). Restaurants: 9.0 There are only two restaurants, but the food at both was consistently very good. The staff was always friendly and accommodating, and it was easy to schedule reservations for dinner. Bars: 9.5 The bars were always stocked with a good variety of quality choices, with emphasis on the local rums. The bartenders always managed to keep the lines short and the drinks delicious. The high score in this category is due more to the bartenders than the liquor choices. Beach / Pool / Grounds: 9.0 / 8.5 / 8.5 The beach in front of the resort is very small, but a short walk in either direction will take you to larger beach areas. The nearby shallow wreck is a great treat for snorkeling, and the occasional availability of nearby surf is yet another bonus. Except after the unusually severe rain storm we witnessed, the beach and water were always extremely clean. Long beach walks are possible in either direction. Sunsets are often beautiful along the beach here. We didn't use the pool often because we were enjoying the ocean so much. The few times that we did use the pool, we found it to be very clean and enjoyable. The grounds were well kept and always very clean. Overall Service: 9.8 This is not a shiny-new resort. That's okay with us. The service and staff are the reasons that this resort is a wonderful place to be and a place we want to revisit (we already have another trip booked). Major kudos to every single employee. Yes, they are really that good. Overall: 9.0 There seems to be a more mature crowd of repeat guests at this resort, and that's fine with us. It's a lovely place to spend a week in the Caribbean! |
