CostaRica_34.JPG - The Green Macaw is also known as Buffon's Macaw or the Great Military Macaw. It is indigenous to Central and South America. During breeding season Green Macaws pair off but in non-breeding times (December - May) they form flocks that fly large areas in search of food. It is a highly endangered species due to loss of habitat and capture for sale as a caged bird. It is now protected by international law from capture and trading. This one is not captive.
