We came across these Chianina cows on the slopes of the hills outside of Monticchiello, we could hear the gentle sound of their bells as they grazed along the hillside. The Chianina are one of the oldest cattle breeds in the world and are mostly raised for beef. The bistecca alla fiorentina is produced from its meat. They were originally bred for draft work in the fields and are still used in processions such as the Coreo Storico in Siena. | 2017_09_13_Italy-10408-Edit1000.jpg |
