Il Porcellino (Italian "piglet") is the local Florentine nickname for the bronze fountain of a boar. This is a modern copy (cast in 1998 and then replaced in 2008) of a figure that was sculpted and cast by Petro Tacca shortly before 1634. Why is the snout so polished looking? The legend says that rubbing the snout will ensure a return to Florence. | MIK_0629.jpg |
