A male and female Nene in front of the Kilauea Lighthouse. Nene are the state bird of Hawai'i. They are found only in the wild and only on the islands of Kauai, Maui and Hawaii although they used to be much wider spread throughout the Hawaiian Islands. These are the rarest of all geese worldwide and from what we could see they have no fear of people. Although they wouldn't come right up to us they wouldn't move away either. | 2009_09_29_Hawaii-718.jpg |
