Depending upon the reference, this sculpture is either called "The Kidnapping of the Sabine Women" or "The Rape of the Sabine Women". Early in Roman history, the (mostly male) followers of Romulus had some trouble finding wives. They resolved this the old fashioned way -- they took women from nearby areas.
