This sculpture is entitled "The Rape of Polyxena". I'm a bit unsure about this. I thought that she was sacrificed (while still a virgin) after bringing about Achilles death and her mother (Hecuba) lived on. However this piece shows Achilles striking down Hecuba. If I follow the story, the man on the ground is Polyxena's brother -- Prince Troilus. | _JMS0076.jpg |
